Information Management and Communication Officer (IMCO)

Tomini Bay Sustainable Livelihoods and Management Project (SUSCLAM)

The Tomini Bay Sustainable Livelihoods and Management (SUSCLAM) Project is being implemented by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (IUCN) Asia, together with Indonesian partners.  Wetlands International Indonesia Programme (WIIP) is the project’s administrative partner, as well as providing technical input.  The project aims to improve the management of the marine and coastal resources of Tomini Bay, while improving the livelihoods of communities relient on the Bay’s natural resources.  The project will work in the provinces of Central Sulawesi, Gorontalo and North Sulawesi.

The project takes a multi-stakeholder approach (working with community, government, non-governmental and academic organizations)  and works at different levels (village, sub-district, district, province).  The project is comprised of four main technical components:  i) facilitation of a multi-stakeholder partnership for the management of Tomini Bay; ii) livelihood strengthening of local communities dependent of coastal and marine resources; iii) a scientific assessments of key resources in the Bay; and 4) lessons learned and information dissemination from project experience.  These will be supported by a strong focus on developing the capacity of local stakeholders, to help ensure that sustainability of the project’s work. 

SUSCLAM will recruit an Information Management and Communication Officer (IMCO) to undertake information management, communication and media outreach to support SUSCLAM project activities. The position will be based in Gorontalo. The IMCO will report to the SUSCLAM Project Coordinator based in Gorontalo and coordinating closely with the project’s Technical Advisors.

The IMCO responsibilities will include:

  • Prepare and plan (with the project team) a simple information management and communication strategy to support the project’s four technical components.
    Support the development of a user friendly data base format for the project.
    Consolidate information provided by project staff and project partners and organize the information into the data base system.
    Establish and maintain appropriate record-keeping and document archiving system which will include, among other things, technical and progress reports produced by the project and project partners,.
    Assist in the drafting of project profiles/ documents/ lessons learned by consolidating technical elements provided by Project Coordinator and senior staff.
    Support outreach and communication awareness activities for the project.
    Assist in the design and preparation of project outreach products, including banners, promotional materials (eg. booklets, brochures, presentations, etc.), newsletters.
    Support the project office in the creation and maintenance of a project website, in coordination with IUCN’s Asia regional office.
    Support activities that ensure that information needed to support the project’s four main components is collected, organized and made available.
    Participate and document key project key.
    Any other duties as may be requested directly by the Project Coordinator and indirectly by senior project staff.

Qualifications

  • University degree in a related subject areas (communication or information management, computer science, journalism).
    Minimum 2 years experience in information management and communication
    Good computer skills (data base management, web designing would be an asset)
    Experience in developing and producing outreach materials and in communication strategy
    Proven ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
    Fluency in Bahasa Indonesia is a must, knowledge in English is an asset
    Ability to communicate effectively and work in a team
    Experience with media work would be an an asset
    Knowledge of GIS would be an asset
    Knowledge and experience in natural resource management issues (especially coastal and fisheries) would be an asset
    Experience working with donors and international organizations would be an asset.

  • The contract is for a period of 4 years, until 2011.
